The Alpha Tau Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa celebrated a season of excellence, growth, and recognition during its Spring Induction Ceremony on March 20—an event that highlighted not only new beginnings, but an extraordinary year of achievement.
The ceremony welcomed 83 new members who have joined since January, with 23 students participating in the formal induction. Guests were inspired by a keynote address from Dr. Todd Martin and a warm welcome from Dean Matt Crist, setting the tone for an evening centered on scholarship, leadership, and service.
A special highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Inaugural Alpha Tau Member of the Year Award to AJ Rivera, recognizing outstanding commitment and impact within the chapter. Dean Crist was also honored with the Pearl Recognition Pin, celebrating his longstanding support and dedication to Alpha Tau’s success.
The celebration carried even greater significance as the chapter marked an incredible milestone—13 consecutive years as a 5-Star Chapter, the highest level of recognition in Phi Theta Kappa. This achievement reflects the sustained excellence and commitment of Alpha Tau members, advisors, and campus leadership.
That spirit of excellence extended far beyond campus, with Alpha Tau earning an impressive list of regional honors this year, including:
- Distinguished College Administrator – Dean Matt Crist
- 1st Place Sister Chapter Award
- 1st Place Advisor Team Award
- 2nd Place Distinguished Chapter Advisor – Michelle Scanavino
- 4th Place Art in Ceramics – Emma Wedel
- 5th Place Distinguished Chapter Officer – Emma Wedel
- 5th Place Paragon Advisor – Dr. Michael Vierling
- 5th Place Distinguished Chapter Award
- Honorable Mention Distinguished Officer Team
- Honorable Mention Honors in Action Project
- Honorable Mention College Project
Alpha Tau’s momentum continued on the international stage at PTK Catalyst in Baltimore over spring break. Dean Crist was recognized as a Distinguished College Administrator, and Michelle Scanavino received the Distinguished Chapter Advisor Award. Emma Wedel was also celebrated in the Parade of Scholars for her earlier recognition as a Leaders of Promise Scholar and recipient of the Chime Scholarship.
From new member inductions to regional and international recognition, the Alpha Tau Chapter continues to exemplify what it means to lead with purpose and achieve with excellence—building a legacy that grows stronger with each passing year.
