Jared Van Cleve

Bio:

Missouri-born, Missouri-bred. Van Cleve brings to his audience a part of himself with each piece he creates. His passion, his experiences and his perspective. This results in artwork that combines his love and admiration for the Impressionist Period with his persistent goal of keeping his mind fresh and himself on his toes.

Jared’s Oils are usually created in thick layers, often displaying texture you will want to touch. His passion for natural beauty is seen in his work as he transforms landscapes, far and up-close, into stunning interpretations of bold color, playful rhythms and raw emotional impact. Modern impressionism would definitely be the umbrella of which Van Cleve’s style rest under. Even more so, he’s aligned himself near the contemporary master, Erin Hanson and her self-coined style of Open Impressionism. A few other sources of inspiration are past greats such as Cezzane and Van Gogh and contemporary Jane Lufkin.

His Photography is simple and straight. Rarely edited, his prints don’t stray from its image’s inception . The majority of his photos are in black and white, keeping the focus on the form and lighting of his subjects. Whether shooting nature or street life, he loves the challenge of capturing an image that makes sense within the frame. As you can see from his body of work, he takes his camera with him on all of his travels. For a variety of reasons, some of his favorites of this medium are Paul Strand, Garry Winogrand, Diane Arbus and especially Henri Cariter-Bresson.

Van Cleve’s most recent show was a solo exhibition in San Diego, CA that ran through this summer. Some of these pieces will be exhibited here at the Jorgensen Gallery.
