MACC is proud of our own Dr. Sara Shively, recipient of the 2025 Teaching Excellence Award from the Missouri Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (MOMATYC)!
Dr. Shively has been a dedicated educator at MACC since 2007. As the Non-STEM Math Coordinator, she brings passion and innovation to teaching, prioritizing student success in a variety of course formats. She has made an impact on mathematics education across Missouri.
Dr. Shively’s teaching philosophy is best captured by Nel Noddings’ words: “The student is infinitely more important than the subject.” This belief is evident in her unwavering dedication to student success, a quality recognized by her colleagues and supervisors:
Wendy Johnson, Director of MACC Hannibal, describes her as “one of the most dedicated, passionate, and patient instructors I have worked with. She genuinely cares about student success and has become very innovative in math education to help students achieve their goals. I cannot think of a more deserving math instructor!”
Matt Crist, Dean of Academic Affairs at MACC, praises her organization, student advocacy, and ability to connect with students, stating, “Dr. Shively is the professor I rely on to support students who have previously struggled in math courses. Her calming presence and strong teaching skills resonate with our students. Simply put, she is one of the best teachers I have ever been around.”
