Dollar General Gives $12,000 to MACC

Dollar General Gives $12,000 to MACC

6/1/2018

On Tuesday, May 29th, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded the Moberly Area Community College a $12,000 grant to help support MACC's Adult Education and Literacy program.

Ann McCauley, MACC's director of Adult Education & Literacy, wrote the grant and commented, "We are honored to be receiving this grant, and it couldn't have come at a better time. MACC's AEL is experiencing tremendous growth, and we are now offering our program at eight locations. The grant will be used to fund part of the salary of Bill Alton, one of our instructors and a devoted student advocate. Bill helps our students overcome non-academic hurdles like housing needs, food, and transportation. If it weren't for his diligent work, these obstacles could prevent students from finishing our program. This grant will help fund a treasured role within MACC's Adult Education and Literacy program."

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation was founded in 1993 in honor of co-founder J.L. Turner who was functionally illiterate with only a third-grade education. To date, Dollar General has awarded more than $146 million in grants to literacy organizations and has helped more than 9 million people learn to read and prepare for the high school equivalency exam. It's a foundation that believes everyone deserves an equal opportunity to obtain basic education and that it's never too late to learn.
