Nursing Student Receives Scholarship
Deana Harig, a practical nursing student in the Moberly Area Community College Practical Nursing Program at the Advanced Technology Center in Mexico, received the Bonnie Erwin Memorial Scholarship on January 21, 2014. Barbara Pickering, Board Member of the Mexico Area Community Foundation, the organization that administers the scholarship for the Erwin family, presented Mrs. Harig with the $2,500 award in a brief classroom ceremony.
Bonnie Erwin was a licensed practical nurse (LPN) at the Audrain Medical Center for 27 years. She was a graduate of the Mexico Practical Nursing Program when it was associated with the Mexico School District. The Erwin family established the scholarship in Bonnie's memory and to assist a deserving practical nursing student who exemplifies excellence in both nursing skills and academic coursework.
Mrs. Harig resides in Mexico with her husband, Tom. After finishing MACC's practical nursing program at the Advanced Technology Center in Mexico, Mrs. Harig plans to work in Pediatric or Neonatal Nursing and continue on with her education.
