MACC Foundation contributes $25,000 to College

The Moberly Area Community College Foundation presented its annual gift to the College this week. This year’s contribution of $25,000 comes from private and corporate donations and investments held by the Foundation and will be applied to MACC’s general operating funds.

“We’re grateful for the Foundation’s continued support of the College. In this time of budget cuts at state and federal levels, MACC depends on the generosity of individuals and organizations like the Foundation,” said Dr. Evelyn E. Jorgenson, president of MACC.

According to Dr. Jorgenson, the College lost 7% of its state funding this year due to the economic downturn.

Todd Norton, vice-president of Business Banking at Commerce Bank is the Foundation Treasurer. He said this gift represents the Foundation’s faith in the College.

“After Dr. Jorgenson presented the needs of the College this year, we felt we had to step forward and lead the way in giving. The College is growing and we’re happy to assist them in achieving their goals,” Norton said.

The MACC Foundation has its roots in the capital campaign that built the Fine Arts wing of the Moberly campus in 1979. The Foundation is dedicated to advancing the development of the College, both in building campaigns and in general growth. Over the past 30 years, the Foundation has contributed substantially to technology upgrades and building projects, such as the Graphic Arts/Fine Arts wing, the McCormick Commons and Residential Center and the Activity Center. Each semester, the Foundation also provides mini-grants to faculty and staff to fund innovative and creative projects outside of their normal budget. The MACC Foundation Board is composed of 20 civic and industry leaders who share the College’s vision of providing quality, affordable education to its service region.

Scott McGarvey, MACC Foundation Secretary/Director encourages friends and alumni of the College to consider MACC in their charitable giving.

“The College has a great history in Moberly. Now with seven locations and over 5,000 students, we’re making a difference in communities from Columbia all the way up to Hannibal. Giving to MACC means an investment in businesses and families in Mid-Missouri,” said McGarvey.
