Postcard Exhibition at MACC
This month's show is currently on display in the Fine Arts / Graphic Arts Gallery and will run through to Sept. 30, 2011. "The Postcard Show" is a two part exhibition that features the work Kristin Carlson and of dozens of artists that made work in the form of the postcard and sent through the mail to the gallery for exhibition. This exhibition looks at the creative possibilities of the postcard as an art form and looks at themes of place, narrative, and travel. Original postcards were created by artists from across the nation and then sent through the mail system. The featured artist of the exhibition is Kristin Carlson whose work serves as "both personal communication and as visual artwork". Her original mailed pieces have been displayed as artifacts in the gallery which have become a physical record of a five-month project called Large Letters, Small Signs. In this project, the artist mailed a handmade box to a personal friend and then sent letter and postcard artworks in order fill each of the recipients handmade box. Kristin's work is evidence of a personal gift via the mail system where the wandering eye can delight in a vestige of correspondence.
The reception for the exhibition will be held on September 28, from 2:00 pm till 4:00 pm please join us for refreshments.
