The Associate of Arts degree with an emphasis in Health Science (Pre-ADN) is designed for students who plan to pursue admission into either the Practical Nursing (PN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) programs at MACC. Students will remain under the major of Health Science (Pre-ADN) until admittance into either the PN or ADN programs.
Physiology and Microbiology must be repeated if completed five years or more before the date of entry into the program.
The program requires MTH140 or higher. If the math requirement is not met prior to entry, you must have a placement score or assessment measure that places you directly into MTH140 or higher, passed MTH042 with a “C” or higher, or have completed MTH095 or equivalent.
Students seeking admission into the ADN program may complete the required general education coursework with a “C” or above prior to the date of entry into the program. These courses are not pre-requisites; however, it is beneficial to complete as many of the courses as possible while waiting for admission into the program.
Visit our Associate Degree in Nursing program page for admission criteria and contact information.
Students seeking admission into the PN program must complete college-level Human Anatomy/Lab (BIO205) with a “C” or above and Fundamentals of Math (MTH010) or equivalent or higher with a minimum grade of “C” or have a placement score for MTH095 Transitional Algebra or higher. These requirements must be completed prior to the date of entry into the program.
Visit our Practical Nursing program page for admission criteria and contact information.
This academic map is based upon the AA degree requirements as outlined in the academic catalog. In order for you to graduate in two years, specific courses and other requirements (e.g. prerequisites) must be met in a timely manner. It is important that you, when possible and appropriate, enroll in any needed developmental coursework during the first semester(s) of enrollment. Additionally, enrolling for courses during the summer session is an option and can reduce your regular course load and allow you to stay on track to graduate in two years. Finally, keep in mind this map does not substitute for academic advisement. If you have questions, see your advisor and refer to the MACC website for current information.
Additional Graduation Requirement
Missouri law, included in Senate Bill 807, requires every college student pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree at a public institution to pass the Missouri Higher Education Civics Achievement Examination with at least a 70 percent to graduate. The rule will apply to the incoming class of first-time college students in the fall of 2019 and all students thereafter.
This academic map is not a contract, either expressed or implied, between MACC and the student, but represents a flexible program of the current curriculum which may be altered from time to time to meet the academic objectives of the college. MACC specifically reserves the right to modify, delete, or add to any academic map at any time within the student’s period of study at the college.
