Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Because we honor everyone, this work is for everyone.
Introduction to DEI
MACC is a place where all belong.
Diversity fuels the MACC spirit empowering people in our inclusive community.
We celebrate the uniqueness of each individual and multiple points of view.
Be who you are.
We like it that way.
Hi! Welcome to the DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) monthly newsletter. Whether you’re faculty, staff, or administration at MACC, we want you to be involved and engaged with DEI awareness and initiatives.
We hope to help everyone at MACC understand what DEI includes (and what it does not) and why it’s important, as well as help faculty and staff share ideas about how to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion for our students.
We would love to have you as a member of the DEI team. If you’re interested in being involved, please get in touch with us by emailing dei@macc.edu.
A Beginning: What exactly is DEI?!
DEI has everything to do with how we treat our students. We want to make sure that regardless of identity or background, all students are treated with respect and have access to resources to help them reach their goals, whatever those may be.
Diversity MACC acknowledges and embraces the interconnected range of physical, mental, and emotional human differences across our college community.
Equity MACC provides accommodating access to opportunities, networks, resources, and support regardless of an individual’s identity.
Inclusion Together the MACC community strives to maintain an inclusive environment, where individuals of all cultures, identities, and abilities have equal access to the education and resources that are available.
“The biggest benefit of having DEI in higher education is allowing students to learn from one another, to learn that different perspectives can come together and find common ground.”
-MACC student
What is the purpose of these newsletters?
Newsletters will cover various aspects of DEI in an effort to help us learn about and celebrate different qualities that make each of us unique. We hope to build a common vocabulary and allow members of the MACC community to start conversations and respectful interactions with others who have differing perspectives.
