Math Pathways Chart

This academic map is based upon the AA degree requirements as outlined in the academic catalog. In order for you to graduate in two years, specific courses and other requirements (e.g. prerequisites) must be met in a timely manner. It is important that you, when possible and appropriate, enroll in any needed developmental coursework during the first semester(s) of enrollment. Additionally, enrolling for courses during the summer session is an option and can reduce your regular course load and allow you to stay on track to graduate in two years. Finally, keep in mind this map does not substitute for academic advisement. If you have questions, see your advisor and refer to the MACC website for current information.

This academic map is not a contract, either expressed or implied, between MACC and the student, but represents a flexible program of the current curriculum which may be altered from time to time to meet the academic objectives of the college. MACC specifically reserves the right to modify, delete, or add to any academic map at any time within the student’s period of study at the college.

The rule will apply to the incoming class of first-time college students in the fall of 2019 and all students thereafter.

AS -Computer Science

Associate of Science – Computer Science
(Effective Spring 2023)

The Associate of Science (AS) – Computer Science degree is intended for students planning to transfer to a four-year college or university to major in computer science or information technology fields. As a computer science major, students will develop a comprehensive foundation in the principles of computer programming, data organization and network communications. The AS degree differs from the Associate of Arts (AA) degree and the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in the level of mathematics and science coursework that is required.

For students who are more interested in workforce training or updating IT skills, MACC’s Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in IT – Programming or the AAS in IT – Networking degrees may be more appropriate. The AAS degrees typically have lower math requirements.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  1. A great deal of material is covered in a short period of time; this requires a dedicated student. We recommend at least 2-4 hours of study for every 1 hour of class time. It is recommended that student surgical technologists be employed no more than 16 hours per week.
  2. Clinical experience is an extremely important part of your education. All absences must be made up. If more than 20% of clinical is missed, it will be necessary for you to drop that course.
  3. We use several health care facilities in our area. Transportation to and from clinical sites is your responsibility.
  4. Students may be required to attend educational workshops (usually one per semester). Transportation and workshop fees are the responsibility of the student.
  5. The health care facilities that we use for clinical experiences are nicotine free environments.
  6. Clinical facilities require current proof of BLS (basic life support) certification prior to entering the clinical area. The BLS certification must be the course for health care providers through the American Heart Association.
