Dual Credit

Dual Credit Application

Dual credit courses provide high school students an opportunity to experience rigorous college-level coursework and to receive, simultaneously, both high school and college- level course credit. Providing dual credit opportunities to high school students not only works to increase the number of students graduating from high school and attending college, but also to reduce students’ costs and time to degree completion.

Dual credit academic and career technical courses are of the same rigor and quality as all other College courses. Instructors of dual credit courses meet the same credentialing standards required of MACC instructors. College texts and syllabi are followed for dual credit courses.

To be eligible to enroll in dual credit courses, students must meet the placement standards of MACC and the following guidelines:

Students in the 11th and 12th grades with an overall minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) are automatically eligible for dual credit courses.

Students in the 11th and 12th grades with an overall grade point average between 2.5 – 2.99 (on a 4.0 scale) must provide a signed letter of recommendation from their principal or guidance counselor and provide written permission from a parent or legal guardian.

Students in the 10th grade must have an overall minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and must provide a signed letter of recommendation from their principal and guidance counselor and provide written permission from a parent or legal guardian.

Students in the 9th grade must have an overall minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale), score at the 90th percentile or above on the ACT or SAT, and provide a signed letter of recommendation from their principal and guidance counselor and provide written permission from a parent or legal guardian.

Students’ fees may be paid by the high school district or by the student, as determined by the agreement between the high school district and Moberly Area Community College.

MACC’s Dual Credit Program follows the policies and program expectations outlined in the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education’s Policy on Dual Credit Delivery and the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships’ Accreditation Standards.

Online/Virtual/Hybrid

Online Courses

MACC utilizes Canvas to deliver online courses. Students are expected to participate in a variety of ways including posting in threaded discussions, reading, watching or listening to lectures, and submitting assignments in Canvas. Online courses are offered each fall, spring, and summer semester. There is not a set time students must access the course. However, students must actively participate each week and meet assignment deadlines specified by the instructor.

Online class sizes are comparable to MACC’s face-to-face courses. Some online courses require proctored examinations, which are exams given at one of our campuses or in a monitored setting by an approved Non-MACC proctor.

Online Resources

Many college resources are available to MACC students online. Our Library and Academic Resource Center (LARC) provides virtual tutoring by appointment via Zoom and 24/7 online tutoring via Smarthinking. MACC’s Kate Stamper Wilhite Library is accessible via the MACC website and boasts several electronic databases and resources for student research. Additional resources are available in Canvas through the Student Resources Course, including an eLibrarian which offering students a direct link to library personnel.

Hybrid

Hybrid courses combine a traditional classroom setting with an online component. Hybrid courses meet 50 percent of the class time in a traditional classroom setting and 50 percent of the class time online. Hybrid courses use Canvas to facilitate course work and virtual classroom interaction between students, their peers, and faculty members. Students may participate in threaded discussions, submit assignments online, read or watch lectures, and complete various other assignments in a hybrid course.

Hybrids offer the convenience and flexibility of online courses combined with the ability to work directly with your instructor and your peers. In return for this flexibility and convenience, students take responsibility for their learning by using time management skills and staying current with readings and assignments. Logging in to the course on a regular basis provides access to important class information as well as communication with fellow students and the professor.

If you are competent in basic computer skills and have reliable internet access at home (or alternate means to access the internet), then you already have the basic skills needed to succeed in a hybrid course. Students must also activate and utilize their MACC email account. If you are looking for the best of both worlds – both in-class and online learning – then hybrid courses are for you!

Virtual

Virtual courses allow students to attend class from the comfort of their own homes via Zoom. Zoom is an online instructional delivery system allowing real-time interaction between the instructor and the student from a remote location. Its features include two-way audio with microphone and speakers, text messaging, shared whiteboard, a note-taking feature, and file sharing. Students will log into Canvas to access their virtual room. Student may also be required to retrieve or submit assignments in Canvas.

Students must have access to a computer with Internet as well as a USB headphone set with microphone. The USB headset is available at MACC bookstores.

The campus is home to the Fitzsimmons-John Arena in the MACC Activity Center, where students can watch the Moberly Greyhounds, who frequently compete on the national stage, play basketball. The Moberly campus also boasts the Graphic Arts/Fine Arts Gallery which hosts exhibits year-round and in which students are encouraged to participate.  Students in Moberly also have the advantage of access to the Performing Arts Auditorium, the Agora Outdoor Classroom, the MACC Bookstore, the Workforce Development Center, and the Career Center.
