Instructions for Required Background Check

You are required to have a background check on file with the Coordinator of Teacher Education at the beginning of the semester in which you are enrolled in EDU225. Copies of our background check must be offered to all schools you visit.

The Education Department uses the Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) for student background checks. If you think you are not already registered with the FCSR you will need to do so in order to request your background clearance.

If you need to register with the FCSR for your background clearance, the fastest way to get your results is to register online. This will be a one-time registration so you will not be required to pay for future clearances. You will need your social security number and a valid debit or credit card in order to register.

  • Go to the Missouri Family Care Safety Registry and click the “Is A Person Registered” link.
  • Enter your Social Security Number and follow the instructions.
  • If the website response shows that your SSN is not found in the database, click the “Continue” button to proceed with your registration. When you register, do not enter anything in the “Employer Name” box. Instead, click for the drop-down menu in the “Select if No Employer” section and choose “Volunteer.” Follow the steps to complete your registration.
  • If the website response shows that your SSN is found in the database, call 866-422-6872 and request an updated background screening.

A copy of your screening results will be mailed to you not to Moberly Area Community College. You must bring, fax, or email a copy of your letter to the Coordinator of Teacher Education. The coordinator’s fax number is 660-263-6400.

**Your instructor may also request a copy for their files.**

Your instructor for EDU225 will be sent an Observation Name Tag. You are responsible for buying a red MACC lanyard and wearing the name tag and carrying your MACC ID at all times when visiting schools or working with PreK-12 students.

Please contact Robert L. Williams if you have any questions. He can be reached by email at Office: Main Building Room 253 - Phone 660-263-4100 x11630.
