Fuddy Meers: MACC Spring Play

Fuddy Meers play photoAlice in Wonderland meets Family Guy in Fuddy Meers, a funny play by David Lindsay-Abaire, which will be presented by the Moberly Area Community College Drama Department on Thursday, April 23- Saturday, April 25 at 7:00 at the MACC Auditorium.

Fuddy Meers is a dark comedy where crazy characters, each with their own agenda, attempt to muddle through the incommunicative and bizarre world of Claire’s life. Claire (Caitlin Holtzclaw) suffers from psychogenic amnesia and loses her memory every day when she goes to sleep. She, and the audience, struggle to find the truth in this family of a limping, lisping man,(Greg Pauley) a convict who communicates through a puppet(Mason Williams) and a mother who says “fuddy meers” instead of “funny mirrors” because of her stroke (Julia Browning). Other characters include her husband Richard (Dell Miller), her son Kenny (Joshua Kirby) and a cop named Heidi (Tabatha Candanoza.)

Despite its humor, the show manages to address some of the issues challenging families today. Like shows like The Simpsons, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Lindsay-Abaire uses absurdism to focus on some significant issues in our society.

The play does contain adult language and situations, so isn’t appropriate for small children. Tickets are available by calling 660-263-4100 or at the door. MACC students are free.
