MACC Celebrates Community College Month

The Moberly Area Community College Board of Trustees adopted its yearly resolution supporting April as National Community College Month. This recognition across the country provides an opportunity to communicate the role that community colleges play in our educational system.

The main goal of community colleges everywhere is to provide open access to quality higher education at an affordable price. For this reason, community colleges play a vital role in the delivery of higher education to the United States by awarding associate degrees and providing workforce training, personal enrichment, and opportunities for lifelong learning for millions of people every year.

By its resolution, the MACC Board of Trustees “applauds the tremendous efforts of Moberly Area Community College in providing excellence in programs and services to students since 1927. The Board of Trustees further extends its appreciation to the many people of the area who support Moberly Area Community College in its mission and without whom the progress of MACC would not be possible.”

MACC sites in Mexico, Edina, Columbia, Hannibal, Kirksville and Moberly will celebrate in various ways all month long. Each site will host the annual Spring Fling for faculty, staff and students. The day consists of food, fun activities and prizes for students as well as special programs, recognitions and an International Fair. The main campus will host the Bunraku Puppet Troupe from MU in conjunction with the MACC Drama Department and the International Fair. This troupe performs traditional Japanese stories with life-like puppets in a unique style. The community is welcome to attend this free performance on April 23 at 12 p.m. in the MACC auditorium.
