MACC Students and Faculty Travel Abroad

In 1999 Moberly Area Community College began offering opportunities for students to travel abroad.  Since that time there have been numerous trips to almost every country in Western Europe and to Central America.  These trips have offered students and members of the community a chance to visit not only the normal tourist attractions but allowed the individual to discover other unique destinations.

Many colleges and universities are now requiring cultural diversity classes.  Students taking these tours for credit are finding this a fun way to fulfill these requirements.  However, you do not have to take the tour for credit, and many members of the tour just want the experience of seeing the sights with a tour guide.

A group consisting of MACC students, faculty, and a few parents of the students recently visited several countries in Central Europe. Tours in the past have been offered by Steven Voss, Associate Professor of Psychology, Felicia Leach, Instructor of Art, Gopal Krishna, Professor of Biology, and Karen Werner, Associate Professor of Music.  All arrangements for these tours have been made through EF Tours, one of the top educational tour companies that offer the support and resources to allow educators to organize these trips. 

Tours are taken at various times of the year, and the next scheduled trip will be “New Year 2008 In Spain”.  Embarking the week after Christmas Day, this 9 day tour will highlight the cities of Madrid, Seville, Granada, and the Costa del Sol.  There will be an opportunity to make a day trip into Morocco.  Karen Werner will be leading this trip over the holiday break.  Contact Werner at karenw@macc.edu  or call 263-4110 for more information about this trip or future trips.

 

Gopal Krishna, MACC Professor of Biology, visits with students at an elementary school during the spring 2007 trip to Costa Rica.  Following a musical program performed in their honor, Krishna’s MACC group had the opportunity to exchange gifts and make a monetary donation to the children’s school.
