2009 MISSOURI REGIONAL HONORS INSTITUTE

The Honors Conference will be held November 20-22, 2009, at YMCA of the Ozarks, Trout Lodge, in Potosi, MO. The conference is hosted by Xi Lambda, St. Louis Community College-Meramec and Beta Rho Epsilon, St. Louis Community College-Wildwood.

This year's conference will have a literary theme, “Reading Between the Lines.” We'll be conducting a regional Honors in Action project and are asking each chapter to bring donations for the Potosi Intermediate (4-6 grades) and Elementary (K-3) schools. Items (either new or gently used) of particular use to the Intermediate school (4-6 grades) are:
  • Magazines (sports, conservation, teen pop culture, etc.)
  • Books
  • Hats
  • Gloves
  • Scarves
  • Back packs

The Elementary school requested age appropriate books for use in their classrooms.

There will be an open mic competition featuring works displaying a paradox of affluence theme, a costume dance with our favorite literary characters, fundraising for the Hites Scholarship challenge (drawing for 2 custom decorated cakes and two free registrations for the 2010 Regional Convention), great speakers, and more!

Our Missouri Alumni Association is to be featured in an upcoming issue of the Visionary, the annual alumni publication.  A photographer will be on site Saturday for a photo shoot for all alumni and will also get action shots of them.

Please bring items for door prizes!

At our recent Leadership Conference, the regional officers challenged the region to donate to the Hites Scholarship Fund.  Anyone donating between the Leadership Conference through Saturday night of the Honors conference will be entered in a drawing once for each dollar donated.  On Sunday morning of the conference, we will draw four names.  Two will get a custom decorated cake (or cupcakes) donated by Shirley Scarbrough with free delivery anywhere in the state.  Two will get a free registration for the 2010 Regional Convention.

In addition, Ray Kerlagon has challenged us again!  He and his wife, Kathy, will match our member and chapter donations up to $1,000!  The region will also match up to $1,000.  We collected $249 at Leadership and Pi Kappa has donated $80.  That’s just $671 left!  If anyone is donating directly to the Foundation or headquarters, please notify the Regional Coordinator so we can include your donation in our total.  Mr. Kerlagon will be our Sunday morning speaker so he’ll be present for the drawing.
