PHI THETA KAPPA MISSOURI REGIONREGIONAL OFFICER CANDIDATE QUESTIONNAIREName of Candidate: Keith Elliott CrismanOffice(s) for which you are campaigning: President, Vice President Theta DistrictChapter and College Name: Alpha Psi Tau, Ozarks Technical Community College1. List your educational background, current major, and educational goals. I am a current student at OTC on track to achieve an Associate of Arts Transfer Degree. My major is in Psychology, and I plan to further my education in that field by attending the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, for a Bachelors in General Psychology. This would make me eligible to apply for the US Navy Psychology Internship program that would matriculate into a PsyD in Psychology with an emphasis in the Organizational and Abnormal fields. 2. What is your career objective? My career objective would be to continue in the US Navy Psychology program and possibly branch into coginitive research as it pertains to orginizational training. If I am not selected into the program, I will continue my education through a civilian route and go into Organizational and Leadership Psychology or Disaster Psychology. 3. List and describe your activities in Phi Theta Kappa. I was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa in October of 2009. I immediately began asking about leadership and officer opportunities. In the spring semester of 2010, I was fortunate enough to take the Phi Theta Kappa leadership class offered at OTC. After that class, I ran for, and was elected Vice President of Communications for Apha Psi Tau. Since then, I have tried to spend as much time as I can with my chapter and the activities that we are a part of. I have served popcorn, cooked hotdogs, yelled at the top of my lungs to draw customers to our concession stands, and even had the chance to speak at our spring and fall induction ceremony. Each event and activity helps build character. 4. In what other activities have you been involved? In 2001, I was Vice President of the Pike/Lincoln Technical Center VICA Chapter. Currently, I am the acting president of the Kali Springs Homeowners Association, an HOA of over one hundred single family homes. I am also applying for a post in the Ozarks Technical Community College Student Governmen Association as a way to bridge our Phi Theta Kappa chapter and the SGA. 5. Why do you want to become a regional officer? I want to become a regional officer because I want to give back to the region. If it wasn't for Phi Theta Kappa, I wouldn't be where I am right now. I see the opportunity to become a regional officer as an opportunity to help guide others into being the best they can! 6. Define leadership. Merriam Webster describes leadership as a noun originating in 1821. Well, it's 2011, and leadership can no longer be a noun. Leadership needs to be a verb, an action, not a title. The US Army has an acronym for leadership that I still hold true: LDRSHIP; Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, Personal Courage. A true leader is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty. As a side note; A good leader teaches their squad how to battle, a great leader goes in ahead of them. 7. What kind of a leader are you? I would have to describe myself as gentle with the ability to be firm if needed. I enjoy being a leader and I try to lead by example and coaching. 8. What would your friends say is your strongest attribute in dealing with others? I genuinely care how other's feel and people feel comfortable talking to me. I like to help people, but I also know when to step back and let them help themselves. 9. If you are elected to office, what obligations do you believe you will have to the region? I will do everything I can to be a laiszon between the chapters within this great region as well as internationally to help them collaborate and share information with eachother to become the best region that they can be in Phi Theta Kappa! I will also maintain an active roll in my chapter. 10. If elected to office, you will be required to sign the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Code, which states that you will serve the region in a proper fashion. If one of your fellow officers violates the code, what action would you take? That would depend on the severity of the infraction. I would talk to the fellow officer first if the issue were minor, and if necessary, help that officer to seek assistance. If major, I would do as required and inform those necessary to put a stop to the problem. 11. What can you offer to the Missouri Region and your district? I have had the fortune of spending quite a bit of time with our regional team, as well as having an officer of the regional team being in the Alpha Psi Tau chapter with me. I understand the role that is given to the regional position and I believe that I am ready to accept those responsibilities. I want to help the members of our region to make us the greatest region there is! |
