FAFSA Frenzy* Helps College-Bound Students Apply for Financial Aid

Every year the U.S. Department of Education makes more than $113 Billion in postsecondary financial aid available to students throughout the nation. College Goal Sunday (CGS) makes applying for financial aid easier by providing students with free help filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the first step in applying for federal financial aid and state programs.

The Missouri Association of Student Financial Aid Personnel (MASFAP) and the Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE) are partnering closely to bring an expanded CGS program to Missouri for 2010. To assist students and parents with the FAFSA process, financial aid professionals will be on hand Sunday, February 13, at the MACC Learning Center.

Textbook vouchers will be given to students attending the event statewide. Winners will receive their textbook vouchers upon receipt of enrollment verification for the 2011 fall semester.

Families who bring their completed 2010 income tax returns to a FAFSA Frenzy event will be able to complete the 2011-12 FAFSA on-site. Families who haven’t completed their tax returns will still learn valuable information to help them finish the FAFSA at home. For quicker filing, please obtain your PIN in advance by visiting www.pin.ed.gov.

2011 FAFSA Frenzy events will mark the seventh year that Missouri has participated in CGS. Last year, CGS helped more than 800 Missouri students obtain financial aid.

*FAFSA Frenzy, a program of College Goal SundaySM, is offered in Missouri through partnerships between the Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE) with the Missouri Association of Student Financial Aid Personnel (MASFAP), the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority (MOHELA), the Lumina Foundation for Education, and the YMCA.
