MACC Employee Retires

Moberly Area Community College long-time library assistant, Shirley McElyea, is retiring after 34 years of service to the College. MACC recently hosted a retirement tea for Shirley and her friends and family as well as MACC faculty and staff. She was presented with a plaque and a personalized rocking chair to start off her relaxation.

“Shirley has been a valued library assistant for 34 years. She has served MACC students, faculty, and staff from the catalog card days to the current computerized, electronic database searching days. Always with a smile on her face, Shirley makes herself available to library patrons to answer questions ranging from where is the pencil sharpener to how big a risk are software viruses on my jump drive? Shirley has been one of the most committed and loyal employees that I have ever worked with—always at her desk serving MACC!” said Library Director Valerie Darst.

Shirley has raised a family of three children while working at MACC. Scott, Todd and Cari. She plans to spend her retirement pursuing her hobby of painting, traveling, serving her church, and spending time with the grandchildren.
