MACC Celebrates Women's History Month

In honor of Women's History Month, we're screening "Norma Rae". This film is a fictionalized 1979 American drama about a factory worker from a small town in North Carolina, who becomes involved in the labor union activities at the textile factory, where she works, after the health of her and her co-workers is compromised. The film stars Sally Field in the title role, Beau Bridges as Norma Rae's husband, Sonny, and Ron Leibman as union organizer Reuben Warshowsky.

Crystal Lee Sutton, the real-life union organizer and activist, made a historic stand in 1973 for the right of southern mill workers to organize a union. Sally Field won a Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of the main role, Norma Rae.
