Art on the Block Celebrates Local Artists
The front lawn of Moberly Area Community College will burst with color and crowds on Saturday, June 11, for the 7th annual Art on the Block festival. Booths will open on the Moberly campus at 10AM, rain or shine, and close at 2PM.
Art on the Block gives children and families the chance to observe or participate in interactive arts activities. Hands-on projects on Saturday will include the ever-popular tie-dye booth, air-dry clay creations, drip painting, stone polishing, mask-making, art with the downtown Moberly's Stroke of Magic, and more. Live musicians and local, professional artists will be creating and performing throughout the day. Food will be available from local vendors.
The highlight of Art on the Block is the designs from artists of all ages who will compete for prizes with their own sidewalk chalk projects. Chalk is provided for all participants and prizes will be awarded for various age groups.
With the exception of a nominal fee for the tie-dye t-shirts and food, Art on the Block is free and open to the public because of the generosity of local and state sponsors. Donors this year include Orscheln Farm and Home, the Missouri Arts Council, Moberly Area Council on the Arts, Edward Jones, Sherwin Williams, Westlake's Ace Hardware, County Bank, Lowes, Wal-Mart Distribution Center, Central Bank of Moberly, Commerce Bank, Chef Jeff Catering, Moberly Motors and the Rollins Street Neighborhood Association. All activities will take place at 101 College Avenue in front of the College's main building.
