MACC to Partner with WIU in Linkages Program
Moberly Area Community College and Western Illinois University announced a new partnership in Western's Linkages program at an event on Thursday, September 10, in the MACC-Hannibal Higher Education Center. The agreement will allow students to concurrently enroll at both institutions.
According to Andy Borst, WIU admissions director, the Linkages Program allows students to take courses at both Western and a participating community college during their first and second year of college to ensure a successful transfer. The agreement includes all of Western's degree programs.
"We are excited by the educational opportunities that this new partnership brings to Missouri-area students," said WIU President Jack Thomas. "We look forward to working with Moberly Area Community College to provide this program that benefits students in the region."
According to MACC Vice President for Instruction Paula Glover, the partnership provides MACC students planning to attend Western a seamless transfer.
"Although all MACC students can participate in the Linkages program, our Hannibal students in particular may benefit from this new partnership with WIU," Glover added. "The MACC/WIU agreement allows students to get a head start on transfer while earning their associate degree at MACC, potentially saving them time, money and credits when they finish their baccalaureate degree at WIU."
While at MACC, students in the program will have access to WIU resources and benefits. In addition, Western offers scholarships for transfer students, in-state tuition to Missouri students, as well as the Cost Guarantee program, which locks in tuition for up to four years.
"We are honored to be a partner giving students another educational choice. MACC students have a proven track record of success and this agreement provides yet another accessible option for individuals who want to continue their education," said Joe Rives, vice president of the Quad Cities and planning.
