Practical Nursing Pinning Ceremonies
Practical Nursing pinning ceremonies for Moberly Area Community College were held at the end of July in Mexico and Moberly. A total of 38 students completed the program, with 22 graduates participating at the First Presbyterian Church, Mexico, Missouri, on July 22nd and 16 graduating at the MACC Auditorium in Moberly on Thursday, July 23rd.
In Mexico, Crystal Dycus and Tracy Price received a Griffin Family Foundation Nursing Scholarship, made possible by the late Anna Margaret Griffin. Stephanie Sanders received the Bonnie Erwin Memorial Practical Nursing Scholarship, made possible by the family of the late Bonnie Erwin.
Jessica Perkins and Megan Wood received the Academic Excellence Award for the highest cumulative grade point average for the year. Stephanie Sanders received the Clinical Excellence Award for showing the most improvement in the clinical area, and Megan Farrell received the Outstanding Nursing Student Award for overall outstanding performance while enrolled in the practical nursing program.
The speaker for the evening was Ms. Terry Bichsel R.N. B.S.N. Also present representing MACC were Dr. Jeff C. Lashley, President, and Mrs. Ruth Jones, R.N., M.S., Director of Nursing and Allied Health Programs. Representing the Advanced Technology Center was Mrs. Caroline Groves, Director.
At the Moberly graduation, MACC President Dr. Jeffrey Lashley welcomed the graduates and attendees to the ceremony. Amy Preston, L.P.N., Scrub Nurse at Samaritan Hospital in Macon gave the address. Practical Nursing Coordinator Terry Bichsel, R.N., B.S.N., presented awards to the following students; Wesley Koenig received the Academic Excellence Award for the highest GPA during the PN Program; Jennie Boyd received the Clinical Excellence award for most improved in the clinical setting, the Clinical Excellence Award from Dr. Syed Rashid's office, and the Louise H. Roach Memorial Scholarship.
A reception for friends and family followed both ceremonies.
Every year, MACC offers 62 seats in the PN program at its locations in Mexico and Moberly. This intensive, 12-month program prepares students to sit for the Licensed Practical Nursing exam. Each week, students spend approximately 21 hours in class and two full days in clinics and hospital across the region. The program shapes the PN's attitude, skills and builds their knowledge base to serve as a client caregiver under the direction of an RN or a Licensed Physician.
