Koenig Receives College Nursing Scholarships
Moberly Area Community College nursing student Wesley Koenig recently received the Thelma Shaw Memorial Scholarship and the Charles H. and Margaret L. Hartig Scholarship to assist with educational expenses.
Koenig is participating in the Practical Nursing program on the Moberly campus and lives in Moberly with his wife and two daughters (ages 3 and 1). Koenig plans to continue his education in the Associate Degree Nursing program and eventually pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing to specialize in orthopedic OR nursing.
Thelma Shaw, a life-long nurse, served communities on the east coast for many years. The Shaw Scholarship is awarded to one student each year in the Practical Nursing (PN) program and provides 50% of fees, tuition, clinical fees, technology fees, and required textbooks for the length of the program. Once award recipient completes the three semesters of coursework and graduates from the PN program, the scholarship follows them into the Accelerated Associate Degree in Nursing (AADN) program. As in the PN program, it pays for 50% of specified fees & textbooks. The student has the option to work as a Licensed Practical Nurse for several years before returning to school.
The Hartig Scholarship was established by a trust fund from the Charles H. and Margaret L. Hartig estate in order to financially assist nursing students enrolled at MACC. In order to qualify for the scholarship, recipients must be recommended by MACC PN faculty, and demonstrate both academic promise and a financial need.
