Swetnam Scholarship Awarded
5/30/2014Moberly Area Community College recently awarded the Tom and Fern Swetnam Memorial Nurse Scholarship to Heather Montague, a Practical Nursing student from Columbia who is taking classes at the Moberly campus.
Heather moved to the Columbia area from the east coast 17 years ago. She and her husband have three boys, ages 15, 11, and 7. Heather took the plunge to pursue her dream of nursing and will graduate with a Practical Nursing certificate in July. She plans to continue her coursework at MACC in the Accelerated ADN program in January 2015. Heather ultimately would like to work in pediatric oncology or as a flight nurse.
The Tom and Fern Swetnam Memorial Nurse Scholarship was established through a bequest from the Estate of Tom and Fern Swetnam for the purpose of educating & motivating nursing students at MACC. Each year, the scholarship provides a $500 award to an Associate Degree in Nursing student and to a Practical Nursing Certificate student.
