MRMC Volunteers Award Scholarship

2/17/2014

The MRMC Volunteers have chosen Ms. Krista Allen, nursing student at Moberly Area Community College as the spring 2014 recipient of the MRMC $1000 Volunteer Scholarship. The MRMC Volunteers raise money throughout the year with various fundraising events to be able to raise the funds to award scholarships to aspiring MACC students. One or two scholarships are awarded every year to students going into a health-related profession.

Krista aspires to become a board certified nurse. She is a student at Moberly Area Community College in the Nursing RN program. She earned a bachelor in health science with a minor in psychology from University of Missouri in 2009 before applying for the RN program at MACC.

Krista resides in Marceline. She is a 2005 graduate of Marceline R5 High School where she graduated with a 4.0 gpa. She was a member of the student council, received an honors diploma, the President's Award for Excellence, the DAR Good Citizen Award, was an FBLA member, and 4-H Vice President and Treasurer. In college, Krista is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, a Who's Who nominee, and on the Dean's List of the School of Health Professions.

Krista has volunteered at True Tiger Peer Health, SADD, Smokebusters, ACT Missouri, Boone County Health Department, Fresh Air Fulton, American Cancer Society, Americans for Non-Smokers' Rights. She also taught breastfeeding and lactation classes at the Callaway County Health Department. She is an active member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, the Marceline Tiger Booster Club, and Relay for Life-Callaway County.

"The healthcare field is vital to keeping people as productive as possible, as well as providing them with comfort and the best quality of life," explained Krista, "I love that the healthcare field takes a holistic approach to caring for people and the many dimensions a job in this field has: not only do we treat illnesses but also educate the public about healthy behaviors, innovate new technologies for treatments, and tailor our programs and treatments to each specific patient. It's an exciting time to be in healthcare and I am ready for the challenge," she said.

On behalf of the MRMC Volunteers, we congratulate Krista on her award and wish her continued success in her health care career.

The MRMC Volunteers include 38 community members who enjoy giving back to their community. Over 10,000 volunteer hours of service was donated in 2013 to Moberly Regional Medical Center. Interested individuals may call the MRMC Volunteer office at 269-3121 to inquire about volunteer opportunities. We appreciate the tireless efforts they provide to our community and to our hospital.
