MACC Hosts Art on the Block
Moberly Area Community College is presenting Art on the Block on Saturday, June 9, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., rain or shine. Activities will take place in the 100 block of Rollins Street and along College Avenue in front of the Main Building of MACC.
This event, which is also sponsored by Orscheln Farm and Home, US Cellular, the Missouri Arts Council, the Moberly Area Council on the Arts and the Rollins Street Neighborhood Association, will give attendees the opportunity to either observe or participate in a variety of interactive arts activities. Professional artists will be creating sidewalk chalk drawings throughout the day, and designated areas will also be available for people of all ages to create their own sidewalk chalk renderings and compete for prizes. Chalk will be provided for all participants. Winners will be able to select from prizes including an Art Party, an Art kit, an Art piece, or a free MACC fine arts class.
Other hands-on activities include polishing stones, creating drip paint projects, spray painting graffiti art, creating plastic bottle lamps, puppetry, automatic art, chalk-making, block prints, pottery, making musical instruments and tie-dying t-shirts. Live music and food will add to the enjoyment. Additionally, the Graphic Arts/Fine Arts Gallery will have an exhibit highlighting the work of MACC’s art students. This event is free and open to the public. All activities are free with the exception of a nominal charge for the tie-dye t-shirts and food.
Art on the Block will be a festive, kid-friendly event, but people of all ages will enjoy the colorful and creative activities.
