MACC Awards Hartig Scholarship
Moberly Area Community College recently awarded the Charles E. and Margaret L. Hartig Scholarship to MACC Practical Nursing student Athena Sharp.
The Hartig Scholarship was established by a trust fund from the Hartig estate in order to financially assist nursing students enrolled at MACC. In order to qualify for the scholarship, recipients must be recommended by MACC PN faculty, and demonstrate both academic promise and a financial need.
Athena Sharp currently resides in Brunswick, MO with her husband of 31 years, her daughter and three grandchildren. She is attending the PN program at MACC and plans to graduate the program in July. She hopes to be accepted in the Accelerated ADN program offered through MACC to attain her associate degree in nursing. Prior to nursing, Athena worked for a non-profit group who used horses to facilitate growth and learning in people with mental and emotional difficulties, including those with autism. Athena would someday like to combine her experiences in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy with nursing; possibly as a Nurse Educator.
Shown at the presentation of the award is (l to r): Terry Bichsel, MACC Practical Nursing Program Coordinator; Dr. Greg Mosier, MACC Dean of Career and Technical Education; Athena Sharp and Ruth Jones, MACC Nursing and Allied Health Department Director.
