Moberly Area Community College, the Rollins Street Neighborhood Association and the Moberly Area Council on the Arts are jointly sponsoring Art on the Block on Saturday, June 11, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., rain or shine. Activities will take place in the 100 block of Rollins Street and along College Avenue in front of the Main Building of MACC.
This event will give attendees the opportunity to either observe or participate in a variety of interactive arts activities. Professional artists will be creating sidewalk chalk drawings throughout the day, and designated areas will also be available for people of all ages to create their own sidewalk chalk renderings and compete for prizes. Chalk will be provided for all participants. Winners will be selected from several categories. A Grand Prize winner will be able to select from prizes including an Art Party, an Art piece, or a free MACC fine arts class.
Other hands-on activities include contributing to a mural, making musical instruments, creating recycled art sculptures and tape sculptures, trying block printing, creating graffiti art, working with clay, and tie-dying t-shirts. Music, food, clowns, and magicians will add to the enjoyment. Additionally, the Graphic Arts/Fine Arts Gallery will have an exhibit open during the day. This event is free and open to the public. All activities are free with the exception of a nominal charge for the tie-dye t-shirts.
Art on the Block will be a festive, kid-friendly event, but people of all ages will enjoy the colorful and creative activities.
