Office of Access and ADA Services
What we do We provide services for MACC students who have disabilities in order to ensure that they have access to our educational programs. Eligible students can register with our office, and we will work out a plan with them to provide reasonable accommodations based on the specifics of their individual disabilities.
Types of services Services and academic accommodations are based on individual requirements and are guided by the documentation from medical and psychological professionals. Services might include, but are not limited to, classroom adaptations, print magnifiers, enlargement of tests and printed materials, permission to tape-record lectures, extended time on testing, out-of-class testing, peer note-takers, test scribes, test readers, computer screen readers, alternate textbook formats, real-time transcription services for the Deaf, special assistance with registration, liaison with faculty and staff, and liaison with Vocational Rehabilitation.
Who is eligible Students who have a documented disability are eligible to register with our office and receive services. Disabilities could be related to physical or mobility impairments, vision or hearing impairments, psychological diagnoses, learning disabilities, or other diagnosed conditions. The type of documentation needed varies depending on the disability.
General guidelines for disability documentation
Additional documentation may be required. Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or 504 Plans from high school can provide helpful information, but may not be sufficient documentation. Our office staff can discuss documentation needs with students further. All disability documentation and information is regarded as private and handled confidentially.
How to get started Students can call our office to set up an appointment and ask any questions. We will discuss each student’s specific situation and schedule an appointment to meet in person to register with our office. For students who cannot meet at the Moberly or Columbia campuses, we can work with them by phone and send the registration paperwork through our campus mail system.
