Professional Development Schedule

 

 

MACC intends to provide a quality, meaningful Professional Development program for all MACC employees. If you would like to see us offer any particular topic that would be relevant and valuable for you, please forward your suggestions to the Director of Human Resources. Professional development is very important for all employees to keep current in technology, legal issues, and other topics that help us do our jobs well and boost our morale. Every full-time employee is required to attend a minimum of 3 sessions each academic year. Please contact Human Resources at extension 294 to register.

Things I Need to Know About Campus Safety presented by Lori Perry (repeat session)

Are you familiar with the Crisis Management Plan? Did you know we have a Crisis Management Team? How will you be notified if there is an emergency? What would you do if a shooter entered the building? These are all questions that will be discussed. We will cover the Crisis Management Plan, and give you the information you need to make good decisions in the event of an emergency.

Diversity Issues in the Workplace and in the Classroom presented by Pat Twaddle

The goal of this professional development presentation is to provide participants with a deeper understanding of the concept of diversity. Participants will gain increased awareness of their own stereotypes and biases and learn how those developed. They will learn strategies on how to recognize and replace their biases with more appropriate attitudes and behaviors. This workshop will explore approaches for removing barriers to encourage greater diversity in the workplace and in the classroom, and further explore ways to prevent and discourage discrimination at MACC. The session will include group activities, individual exercises, and a PowerPoint presentation. Handouts will be provided.

De-mystifying the MACC Board Agenda presented by Dr. Evelyn Jorgenson

The monthly Board of Trustees meeting and the Board agenda are mysteries to many MACC employees despite the fact that a summary is provided after each meeting. This session will provide information and discussion on topics that become part of the agendas, the role of the Board of Trustees, and the difference between action items and general information items in the monthly Board agenda. Time for questions/answers will be part of the presentation.

ACCT—What We Learned and How It Affects You presented by Dr. Evelyn Jorgenson

The President and several Board of Trustee members will have recently returned from the annual conference of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). This session will be a brief summary of the ACCT conference, a discussion of the relevant issues reported on at the conference and a discussion of the action plans resulting from what was learned. Time for questions/answers will be part of the presentation.
