MACC is in the early stages of launching a GO GREEN initiative. A committee of MACC faculty and staff have had initial meetings and is in the process of developing a focus for the Go Green campaign. The group intends to focus on individual efforts to live a “greener” life-style as well as broader programs designed to educate and promote the concept of sustainable living. According to Elizabeth Rogers and Thomas M. Kostigen, authors of The Green Book, humans produce an average of 4.5 pounds of waste each and every day. The MACC Go Green committee hopes to impact the day-to-day decisions that affect our environment. The committee is currently in the process of identifying community resources, taking an inventory of current “green” activities that have already been implemented at the College, and developing a contract/pledge document for individuals to put their commitment in writing. MACC’s Go Green initiative was inspired by Wal-Mart’s Personal Sustainability Project that was launched by Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott in 2005.
