MACC Alumni Association
The Moberly Area Community College Alumni Association/Foundation was officially established in the late 1970's in order to provide a base for fundraising for the Academic Fine Arts Wing. After this successful campaign, which raised 2.5 million for the three-story addition to the Main Building, the Foundation and the Alumni Association remained as one entity for several years. Then as it grew, the two were separated, with the Foundation becoming the main fundraising arm of the College, and the Alumni Association providing the base for this activity by keeping in touch with former graduates.
MACC has one of the most active two-year college alumni groups in Missouri, giving students the opportunity to stay connected with MACC for a lifetime. Members pay dues of $15 a year for a single membership, and $25 for a couple, and there are many couples who are both MACC alums.
Alumni records hold approximately 7000 names and addresses of alums dating back as far as the 1930's. Each year’s grads are added to these records, and addresses and information are kept as current as possible.
Since the last two years of high school, (lower level), were housed at the College until 1968, the Alumni Association also includes some high school class records and these class members are some of the College’s most staunch supporters.
There is an Alumni Office at the College staffed by a part-time Alumni Director. Duties of the director include keeping records, assisting with bookkeeping, taking care of correspondence, and writing, compiling and publishing a quarterly newsletter. The director also assists anniversary classes that are planning reunions, gives tours, helps to keep the Alumni Museum current and in order, and directs other activities of the organization which fall under the blanket of Alumni.
The purpose of the MACC Alumni Newsletter is to keep alums current with what is going on at the College and also what is happening in the lives of their former classmates. For some, this is the only way they can stay connected with their Alma Mater and keep up with the changes and growth taking place there.
The committee made up of the Director, alumni officers and other alumni members meets several times a year to plan activities. This committee is responsible for coming up with ideas to make the organization run more smoothly and stay visible in the community. One of its main duties is to plan the annual Alumni and Friends Banquet held in April.
Each spring the Alumni Association gives four $200 scholarships to area high school students who plan to attend MACC in the fall. These scholarships must be used in the College bookstore. They are renewable for three additional semesters if criteria are met. Dues help pay for these scholarships and for the quarterly Newsletters.
