Career Opportunities

Medical Laboratory Technician

Professionals employed in the field of medical laboratory technology are an indispensable part of the health care team. Using samples from many kinds of human specimens, laboratorians perform determinations and analyses that physicians use to maintain health or to diagnose and treat disease. Testing involves operating sophisticated instruments, identifying microscopic organisms, using deceptively simple kits and performing complicated assays. Laboratory work requires technical expertise and attention to detail. A laboratory professional not only performs the testing but also recognizes disease states. With their specialized training, medical laboratory technicians provide the health care team with the most accurate results available.

MACC’s MLT program prepares you to work successfully in many environments. The program graduate is eligible to take the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) certifying examination. Core requirements of this program prepare graduates to transfer to a four-year program.
